Reeltown Band Alumni, we have an opportunity to do something very special for Ms. Wright.
For all the years Ms. Belinda Wright spent teaching at Reeltown, there is one experience she never had the opportunity to attend: The Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago.
For band directors, Midwest is a pretty big deal. It brings together some of the best bands, conductors, composers, and music educators in the world. Many school systems send their directors every year, or at least every few years, as part of their professional development. That just wasn’t something that was financially feasible during Ms. Wright’s time at Reeltown.
The thing about Ms. Wright is that retirement hasn’t really changed how much she cares about this program. She still invests in our kids, shows up for the Reeltown Band, and continues to encourage and mentor our current director.
Ms. Wright spent a career doing things for Reeltown students. Maybe this is our chance to do something for her.
Let’s send Ms. Wright to the international band convention in Chicago, December 16th-18th.
Our current band director, Mr. Eric Thompson, would travel with Ms. Wright and attend the conference as well, using the opportunity to learn, grow, and bring new ideas back to our students. There’s something pretty neat about the idea of Reeltown’s former band director and current band director getting to experience Midwest together and representing our little corner of Alabama in Chicago.
Our goal is to raise $3,000 by September 15th to help make the trip possible for both of them.
If 100 former band members gave $30, we’re there.
If 60 gave $50, we’re there.
And nobody has to give that much. We’d just love for this to be something that comes from a whole lot of people who were impacted by Ms. Wright and the Reeltown Band over the years.
All money raised beyond the actual cost of the trip will stay with the Reeltown Band and go directly toward our students.
