At Reel Life Monsters, we believe that horror is pretty much the best thing in the world. It gives us the opportunity to experience fear and anxiety in safe, controlled environments; it lets us see strange and terrible things that we would rarely encounter on a day to day basis; it gives us a language to communicate with one another as minorities, and express thoughts and feelings in a way that isn’t always visible to those outside our communities and, crucially, it looks really, really cool. Our goal is to create regular film viewing events and written content centring on the horror genre, with particular focus on how horror intersects with issues relating to LGBTQ+ issues, neurodivergence, and disability.
In the past we have been lucky enough to receive funding from the National Lottery, via the BFI and FilmHub Southwest, but we’re now looking to diversify. This fundraiser is intended to help fund our events for the upcoming year, with the money being put towards venue hire, equipment hire, film licensing costs, and providing a wage for the hardworking students and graduates that make up most of our organisation. Please give as much or as little as you can! We’ll make sure to mention you at our upcoming events and give you the biggest thank you imaginable.
Best wishes,
The Reel Life Monsters Team
