Reef’s Ride to Recovery

Hi my name is Katie, and that handsome boy in the photo is my 5 year-old wolf dog Reef.
On December 20th, Reef tore his ACL and is currently unable to walk or put any pressure on his hind leg. Watching and knowing my boy is in pain and there is very little I can do financially to help him right now has been so difficult for me especially over the holidays . As he is my very best friend and Emotional Support Dog, I can’t imagine my boy not being by my side on a daily basis and that’s why I’m here asking the impossible of the people who know and love Reef as much as I do.
Right now we’re looking at a month to six weeks of medication and physical therapy and then surgery to fix his ACL tear if all goes well. The costs of just the initial exams will already set us back more than we can afford and it’s the most heartbreaking feeling not knowing if I can afford this for him.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting my sweet boy, words can’t fully describe the impact he makes on everyone he meets. He’s an old soul with kind eyes and a heart match. Still mischievous in his adulthood, it’s nothing compared to the hell he put me through as a pup. As Reef and I both grew up a little, we started taking in other dogs with hopes of changing their lives for the better. Happily we were able to re-home some after fostering and a few snuck in and stayed with us till the end. His love for others and ability to share his momma always impresses me.
I’m a traveler by nature, my heart always aching for adventure and Reef has been by my side every step of the way since he was 2 months old. From family vacations to the Blue Ridge mountains to island camping down in the Florida keys, Reef has done it all with me. Our most recent accomplishment that we are so proud of is car camping across the United States from Florida to Washington State and back. We crossed and camped in 11 states, most of which were firsts for us, Visited the Grand Canyon and the coasts of Oregon where we both mutually fell in love. I promised Reef this season he would get to see snow and with the cold front that just came through it breaks me that he can’t frolic through it.
Some people value materials, some love fancy
meals or even luxury vacations. My happiness is seeing the world through the eyes of my dog. So if you can help at all to help Reef heal and get back out adventuring with me. Thank you for your time.
