Reed Revels, a 12-year-old boy, was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of AML Leukemia. His diagnosis was completely unexpected. He is currently undergoing his third round of chemotherapy. He is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant which is a complex and intensive process. The bone marrow transplant process will require Reed to remain hospitalized for an extended period. Following his discharge, Reed will be required to stay within 15 miles of Johns Hopkins, St. Petersburg for a minimum of 90 days to allow for close medical monitoring and immediate intervention should complications arise. In addition to the already increasing financial burden, the family will now need to find temporary housing, such as an Airbnb or hotel, for at least three months. Reed will then require frequent medical follow-ups and possibly more chemotherapy if the transplant does not successfully treat his AML.
Reed’s journey continues to be intense. The family’s lives have been turned upside down. There have been mountains and valleys. Megan and Richie try to provide Reed’s brother, Nolan, with some sense of normalcy as they fight for Reed’s life. We are so very grateful for all of the support received so far but the financial burden on the family continues to grow as this is a marathon. Reed’s mother, Megan, has been the primary provider for the family for several years, as his father, Richie, is permanently disabled. Due to Reed’s treatment, Megan has needed to remain by Reed’s side at All Children’s Hospital causing her to be away from her business. This is causing even more emotional and financial burdens.
Needless to say, they need our help. This fundraiser will help with medical bills, travel expenses, food, housing, and other bills needing to be paid due to loss of income. All proceeds will go directly to the family. Every gift, regardless of the amount, is so appreciated.
