Please help and support this sweet Mackinaw family. Dan & Courtney Fry and their 5 children(4 still at home) whom live at Heritage Lake in Mackinaw Illinois (formally Washington Illinois) are in need of your help and support. Their 10 year old son Reed ( in the 4th grade) has Medullablastoma, which is a type of brain cancer.
     Quote from mom(Courtney)
On April 13th Reed woke like usual and got ready to go to his baseball game. He complained of a headache, but took some Tylenol and was ready to play. After the gam he came home for lunch and then he laid down to take a nap, before playing a second game. Before he fell asleep a friend knocked at the door to play and Reed was up and running around with his friend until it was time for his second game. We then headed to Pekin to watch his big brother play his baseball game. During his brothers game he spent time playing in the playground. About 10 minutes left in the game he came over and sat by me and started complaining that is head was hurting again. I gave him some more Tylenol and took him to the car to lay down.
On the way home he fell asleep. After we got home he started having some issues. He was having trouble getting out of the car and again trouble getting into the front door of the house. Once inside he started vomiting, talking jibberish, and unable to use words. Thinking he maybe was having a stroke or a migraine headache we immediately got him back in the car and drove to OSF. A lot of light flashing and horn honking may have happened on the way. During the car ride he informed us that he had fallen off the playground and hit his head. So at this point we thought he has a concussion. An amazing ER doctor took wonderful care of Reed, and immediately sent him down for an MRI. The results were back by the time we got back to the ER room. There was something there that was not caused from the fall. Within no time there were doctors from Neurology in Reeds room saying they found a brain tumor and they would be sending him up to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.   End Quote from mom (Courtney)
Reed had surgery on April 17th at OSF Children's Hospital in Peoria Illinois, to remove the tumor. The surgeon who worked on Reed seemed pleased with how the surgery went and said they were able to remove the tumor and it was not attached to the brain stem. The pathology report came back and said Reed has Medullablastoma which is a type of brain cancer.
The Fry family is planning on leaving the first part of May to continue Reeds treatments in Memphis. Courtney and Reed will be traveling by ambulance and Dan will be following the ambulance. As soon as Dan has Courtney and Reed settled in, in Memphis he will be returning to mackinaw to care for his other children that are still at home. Dan and the family will be traveling back and forth to Memphis for visits with Reed and Courtney. A Meal Train will also be set up for Dan and his children in Mackinaw. Please watch for this to come out , and if you are able to help that would very much be appreciated. This family has a very long road ahead of them.
