Donations in Lieu of Flowers in Memory of Ken

Tax deductible
Kenneth Ray “Reds” Wilson, Jr. passed away on March 14, 2019 at the age of 72 due to a traumatic brain injury. His last days were spent with family and loving friends.

Ken Wilson was born in Cool Ridge, West Virginia to Norma Lilly and Kenneth Ray Wilson, Sr. on August 20, 1946. They moved to Baltimore, but he continued to enjoy summers in West Virginia. He graduated from Mergenthaler High School in Baltimore, MD in 1966. Ken met the love of his life, Jessica Luba Skybyk, and they married on April 11, 1970 at St. Dominic’s Church in Baltimore. He loved being a machinist for more than 44 years, retired from Diversified Machining, Inc. in Forest Hill. An avid bowler, golfer, and outdoorsman, Ken always let people know that he was immensely proud of his family, a man of faith and a recovering alcoholic. He and Jessica raised their four girls as members of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Hickory. In later years he was an active member of Mountain Christian Church, serving as a mentor in their prison and addiction ministries. Through Alcoholics Anonymous he discovered and cultivated a community to support each other through the difficulties of addiction.

He cherished his time with his family and especially loved spending time with his grandkids. For the last several years the family vacationed together in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

He was the beloved husband of Jessica Wilson (nee Skybyk); devoted father of Jennifer Barnett and her husband Edward, Dr. Christina Weaver and her husband Tony, Amy Wilson and Bridget Wilson Alphons and her husband Adarsh; dear son of John Ventura and the late Norma Lilly Ventura; treasured brother of Tina North and her husband Michael, Mary Woodman and his late brother Gary Woodman, Mary Berends and her husband Edward; loving uncle to Emily, Anthony, Brian, Aaron, William, Kelly, Kevin, Danny; cherished grandfather of Matt, Catherine, Anthony, and Emma.

Viewings will be held at Schimunek Funeral Home (610 W MacPhail Rd Bel Air, MD 21014) on Sunday, March 17 and Monday, March 18 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 20 at 11am at the Walker Chapel of Mountain Christian Church (1824 Mountain Rd, Joppa, MD 21085). Entombment will follow at Highview Memorial Gardens (3433 Fallston Rd, Fallston, MD 21047) with reception to follow.

All are invited to attend to celebrate the life of this cherished man. In lieu of flowers, Ken’s family kindly asks for donations to Harford County Christian Jail Ministries, Inc. through their GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/redsmemorial. All donations will be given in one lump sum to this nonprofit.
