Red Flag Project

Red flags hang from the windows of Colombian homes, it's a cry out for help amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Their message is simple, they're hungry. Most of those affected had informal street jobs that have been shut down due to the quarantine imposed by the government, leaving them without any source of income. They were told to stay home and wait for help, but only hunger has knocked at their door. Almost one month ago, the quarantine began and the president announced various ways in which citizens would be supported, including food donations, but for many, help has not arrived...

Those most affected have joined to protest, despite being afraid of the coronavirus, because they have a greater enemy. While the rest of the world fights a battle against COVID-19, Colombians are fighting so that the quarantine that protects them against this virus, won't cause them to die in hunger.

About 19% of the Colombian population lives in poverty, and as long as social distancing continues to be the only effective measure to slow the spread of COVID-19, the situation threatens to worsen, and hunger may ultimately claim more lives than the virus itself.

Despite the efforts made by local authorities, the reality is there is so much poverty in Colombia that it's not enough. We need YOU.

With a small donation of $25 dollars, you will be helping to feed a family for one month. We are teaming up with the police department in Medellin to buy groceries donated by you, and deliver them to the doors of those most in need... those raising their red flag.

Let's make our kindness more contagious than the virus that separated us, we may be distanced but we can be united in our fight against hunger.

Our small team of people will make sure that every dollar that is raised is accounted for and directly donated to those in need. We will be personally purchasing the groceries and working with the police department to safely deliver the food to low-income families. We will also be storing all purchase receipts and the police department will be keeping a record of the benefited families for those who may be interested.
