Campout for Justice Detroit 2017

Tragically, too many are too often denied access to justice. We cannot afford to not act. Lack of justice alters and harms too many lives.

It might seem crazy to pitch a tent along a main thoroughfare in what many believe is a dangerous city and start a campout. In reality, we see it as an act of crazy faith and a way to raise awareness of the problems of our justice systems. And we need to raise money to be agents of change. I camped out for 25 days from November 21 through December 15th. Now, I'm back to finish what we started. Our overall goal is to raise $30,000. We have a little less than $10,000 to raise, so I headed back out on to a cold shack on December 29th, 2018. Please help get me back inside soon. Its freezing out there...literally.

Sitting out in the cold doesn't really seem that with what we see on a daily basis of our broken justice system. In fact, it would be crazy to just keep going on with “business as usual.” ReDetroit East NPO, Inc. is a nonprofit law center created to stand in the gap left by the disparities of our legal systems. The status quo is no longer acceptable. Access to justice must dramatically increase throughout Detroit and other urban areas nationwide.

Everyone, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, disabilities, or financial resources deserves legal counsel, direction, education, advocacy, and representation.

Everyone deserves a warm place to stay in the winter and equal access to opportunity. Justice and basic rights shouldn’t only be for those who can afford it.

Our Nation's very founding documents stood for the principle that Justice must be available to all. Too often an individual’s rights to "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" are wrongfully and unconstitutionally extinguished in our struggling legal systems. Too often justice is tied to financial resources or standing within a community. Too often basic core constitutional rights are silently trampled.

Through legal education empowerment, advocacy, and representation we increase access to justice. By restoring, redeeming, and rebuilding within our Detroit community we intend to be the change we want to see in our broken city and legal systems.
