Our current Eaglecam was installed 5 years ago and now in 2020 it needs to be replaced and updated to provide the best viewing experience for all of our Redding Eagle Fans. Our FORE Group is working hard to raise funds to help cover the cost of the new camera, parts, labor and installation. The work needs to be done in the months of August & September when our eagles leave their Nesting Territory during the hot summer months.
Our goal is to raise the necessary funds by August 2020. We are also reaching out to local businesses and potential financial backers to raise additional funds beyond the $5,000 we are hoping to raise here.
We will accomplish the work in 3 phases. In Phase 1 we will be removing the exisiting Eaglecams & microphones & any additional equipment that is no longer working or needed. This will require a trip across the Pond to Eagle Island & theTree Climbers from A-1 Tree Service will go up to the Nest Tree to remove existing Eaglecam equipment. While we are on the Island, we will be able to evaluate the condition of the Solar Panels, Batteries, POE Converters & other Eaglecam Equipment. We will also be checking the fiber optic cable & connections to make sure that is still in place & accessible. In Phase 2, once we know what equipment needs replacing HDontap will begin purchasing the new Cams & other parts needed & prepare for installation. In Phase 3 we will make another trip across the Pond to Eagle Island to have our Tree Climbers to begin the installation process of the new Eaglecam & Microphones and make sure we have a strong signal & everything is working properly.
Our beloved Redding eagles, Liberty & Guardian, have devoted fans all across this Country and across the Globe including Canada, Germany & France! Many of these loyal fans have been following Liberty since 2008 and have watched her along with her 3 mates Patriot, Spirit, and now her current mate Guardian successfully raise 22 eaglets from eggs to fledglings! These folks would love nothing more than to be able to watch our Redding Eagles raise their eaglets via an Eaglecam. Especially during this Global Pandemic we are facing when we have had to shelter in place and spend more time in our homes than ever before!
I hear stories like this all of the time posted on our Friends of the Redding Eagles Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/FriendsoftheReddingEagles , "My housemate/friend & I so enjoy following the Redding Eagles family story. She just told me about watching the hatching of one of the eaglets some seasons ago. How frustrating that ya'lls efforts to secure funding for an eagle cam continue to be stymied! I make the case that having a "window" into the lives of our eagles is a boost to public health. So many of us live with depression. It lifts the heart to use my smartphone screen as a window through which I can connect to the natural eagle family. I am a physically disabled writer who decorates her mind with positive, reality-based stories to fight depression & despair about political reality. Your photos & eagle news are good mental medicine. They are a public service. Please use this argument when/if you next apply for funding for the eagle cams."
We would greatly appreciate any amount that you could donate, great or small, to help support our efforts in sharing the joy, laughter and education that we all receive from watching our beloved Redding Eagles on an Eaglecam. As a retired Teacher, I know firsthand the benefits that an Eaglecam can bring to students of every age! It would make me so happy to be able to provide an Eaglecam for the Teachers & Students of Shasta County and beyond!
Thank you for your ongoing love & support and for sharing this incredible journey with our Redding Eagles!
