Red C Ranch - Chemical Free Food

Red C Ranch is the beginning of a dream. We have always wanted to have a productive farm ... one that is sustainable both economically and environmentally. We tried it in Pennsylvainia, but weather, flooding, and economic setbacks made it impossible. We lost half our livestock, couldn't even get a tomato plant to grow, and watched our fruit trees slowly die. We knew we couldn't do another year up there.
So this spring, we found 21 acres in West Tennessee and moved, hoping for a fresh start. The name Red C Ranch was suggested by a friend, who saw this as moving out of Egypt and into our promised land.
When we arrived, we were surprised to discover that there are very few options for purchasing fresh, chemical free food in this area. Our goal is to be able to provide grass fed meats and naturally grown produce to our neighbors and the nearby town ... to give our community the chance to purchase real food that isn't laden with hormones, drugs, and pesticides.
We're starting with a small flock of sheep, Old English game birds, and rabbits. Our 5 horses are providing raw material to build up the poor soil around here, and will be trained to do some of the heavy lifting! We have 1 goat who thinks she's a person ... she really needs friends of her own species.
There is no well or electricity on the property, so those are our most pressing needs. We are currently hauling water from the fire station, using ice to keep food cold, and charging our phones in the car. We also need more fencing so that we can divide and rotate pastures to keep them from becoming overgrazed.
We are setting up the farm using the principles of permaculture ... managing water, adding as many species of productive plants as possible, and using animals to control pests and fertilize the soil. Any funds that remain after putting in the well, power, and fencing will go towards plants and livestock.
