Redbud Books store launch

Tax deductible
Redbud Books is a non-profit, collectively-run and community-oriented bookstore soon to open in Bloomington, IN. Please help us take root by donating to this fundraiser!

We’re living in a time in which our future is undefined: the uncertainty of our present feels impossible to face alone. Yet, when we come together and ground our work in the lives and well-being of our communities, our futures bloom with possibilities. By foregrounding the wisdom that flows from our shared engagements with books, art, and ideas, Redbud Books seeks to become a Bloomington hub for imagining and building collective futures. We recognize that thought itself can be a radical proposition and that books enable other worlds to bloom by inspiring us to think and act otherwise.

Redbud Books is a project of the Bloomington non-profit Center For Sustainable Living and is run by a collective of passionate volunteers. We seek to foster a welcoming space for all who share a love for conversation and cross-pollination. In addition to providing a wide range of thoughtfully curated fiction, theory, and poetry, Redbud also serves as a community space for reading groups, film screenings, art exhibition, community meetings, book talks, lecture series, and workshops of all kinds.

Founded upon principles of sustainability and community care, Redbud will feature an evolving selection of books and programs that put us in dialogue with contemporary debates and struggles over the future of our city and our world. In partnership with the Neighborhood Planting Project, we are committed to planting a tree for every book sold. We look to engage other community partners who share similar principles and want to collaborate. Please reach out with ideas!

We’re nearly ready to open our doors - but we need your support to get to the finish line! Your donations will go towards purchasing collections and opening costs. By donating to this fundraiser, you are helping us to purchase necessary point of sale equipment, grow our inventory, ensure free hot coffee for all guests, and fill out the space with comfortable furniture and beautiful décor. Feel free to let us know if you want your donation to go towards a specific section of our store (ex. Indigenous Worldviews, Feminist Thought, Black Thought, Rustbelt Histories, Prison Studies and Abolition, Children’s Literature, Graphic Novels, Science Fiction, Poetry, etc.) or to events and programming!

We plan to open doors as early as January 1 at 408 W. Kirkwood. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in and chat over a good book!
