Haydon Bridge Red Squirrel Group looks after the surviving populations of red squirrels in Haydon Bridge, Northumberland.
Red squirrels are endangered in the UK because of the invasive grey squirrel. Grey squirrels carry Squirrel Parapox Virus, which is deadly to reds, as well as outcompeting them for food.
But conservation efforts are working all over the UK! In fact, in Haydon Bridge we have successfully kept grey squirrels out of the red squirrel hotspots for 6 years.
Unfortunately, funding has run out for our dedicated trapper. He worked every day, monitoring and maintaining over 40 traps in multiple locations.
Our volunteer group is small but effective! However, the allocation of a full-time trapper is essential to keep the greys at bay.
Please donate to our crowd funding efforts to help keep Haydon Bridge's red squirrel populations alive and well! Donations will be used to fund a dedicated trapper again in the Haydon Bridge area. This costs £1,350 per month so all donations are welcome.
