Hullo my name is Jo, and lve connected with Edith in the Masai Mara , Kenya, to educate ,encourage, support Girls and Women to discover autonomy .,at grass roots level ..menstral needs ,health, respect ..Empowerment through broader choices..translates to making their own Material Menstral Pads ..to enable attending school and further education.ln this Culture lve observed many things we take for granted are a challenge!.Even my goal of bringing a machine (purchased from friends donations and the transportation of this was close to the $1000 it would take to buy a local one in Kenya.l wanted to make sure it was spent only on the sewing machine(:.My admission to bring a group of girls together to learn to make their own Pads..to do this l need Material ..l found it impossible to bring it with my luggage as my fare doesn't allow it so this donation allows me(Edith) from Masai Mara to buy the material in preparation for our sewing workshop.lve achieved the initial target of $500..so ll be brave and increase the funding total to $700.as all the girls will need food and transport .lm hoping this can continue as an ongoing Workshop space for "self autonomy..and empowering more possibilities..not reliant on the sometimes harsh,often demeaning out moded cultural restrictions on all females ...one example being shaming of girls withtheir periods outside their home(maybe sometimes even in!?)
