Recycled Living: Let's Solve Homelessness

Hi! Welcome to Recycled Living.

Recycled Living is working to create a real solution to homelessness and our problematic recycling system.

We believe Recycled Living can be a monumental step forward in creating a comprehensive and affordable solution to these two large issues.

100% of this fundraiser will go to the construction of our housing-first community here in Portland. It'll provide a free place to live for individuals and families experiencing homelessness while saving tens of thousands of pounds of plastic from entering our landfills.

RECYCLED LIVING - THE SOLUTION

Homelessness and our recycling system are both in dire need of a real solution. Here's how our solution works:

We collect free unrecyclable plastic from across Portland. We then heat and compress the plastic into bricks. These revolutionary plastic bricks are what we use to build tiny homes for individuals or families experiencing homelessness.

Free plastic waste goes in, and a comprehensive housing project comes out.

The homes are inexpensive and recycle an enormous amount of plastic. They show a real solution to homelessness exists that can work anywhere.

OUR BRICKS

Our bricks are used in place of cement or clay bricks.

As opposed to traditional recycling systems, any kind of plastic can be used. This means everything from a plastic bag to a dense plastic crate is shredded, melted, and compressed to make each brick.

This is a large step forwards in recycling. Plastic no longer needs to be sorted, separated, and rejected.

OUR HOMES DESIGNS

What stands out the most about the designs of our homes is their cost.

Since the homes are constructed from free recycled plastic, the majority of each home is free to construct.

This means everything for the success of this project. Cost is no longer a prohibiting factor to justify inaction on homelessness.

At scale, recycling 7,200 pounds of plastic in each home can revolutionize our current recycling system. The Recycled Living housing project is cheaper and faster than using traditional building materials while recycling thousands of pounds of plastic in the process.

THE COMMUNITY DESIGN

Portland has a long history of amazing homeless non-profits. We’ve partnered with organizations in our city to bring more voices to the table. Our partnerships with these organizations will provide job training, food, clothes, and more inside the community.

Having established organizations to collaborate with, benefits our mission and the success of this project.
