Recreating Masjid Prayer Rugs from Our Past, For Our Future
Donation protected
Salaam — my name’s Khalid, and Woven Noor is a project I’ve poured my heart into.
Growing up in the 90’s, there was a prayer rug in our local masjid that I’ll never forget.
It wasn’t fancy.
It wasn’t expensive.
But for me — it symbolised peace, stillness, and simplicity.
A time when life felt slower.
When prayer felt softer.
My great-grandfather would walk me to the masjid 15-20 minutes early for every salah. I’d sit quietly… recite Qur’an… or just be still.
It’s a memory I’ve carried with me my whole life.
⸻
Years later, I went searching for that rug.
Not to hang it on a wall.
But to pray on it again — wherever I was in the world.
That’s how Woven Noor was born.
⸻
What is Woven Noor?
Woven Noor exists to:
→ Recreate prayer rugs from our childhood masjids
→ Help people carry their memories of home wherever they pray
Prayer rugs that feel like home.
But I don’t just want to recreate my rug.
I want to recreate yours.
⸻
This isn’t just a business.
This is about honouring stories.
Preserving memories.
And giving back.
⸻
What Your Donations Will Support:
Every penny raised will help me:
• Recreate old prayer rugs from real masjid photos around the world
• Produce high-quality, woven prayer mats (not printed fabric)
⸻
Why Palestine?
The designs created for Palestine are especially close to my heart.
The masjids being destroyed.
The homes lost.
The olive trees — a symbol of heritage, rootedness, and prayer — uprooted.
This project is my small way of giving back.
⸻
Our Initial Goal: £10,000
But truly — the more we raise, the more rugs we can bring back to life.
The more memories we can preserve.
