My name is Ben Conley. I am a former heroin addict and alcoholic and have been clean and sober for four years. Recently, there has been a rise in heroin addiction and heroin related deaths, as well as a general view of hopelessness toward drug addicts and alcoholics in general. It is my goal to make a documentary showing that recovery is possible, and there is hope. I come from a community of hundreds of people that have recovered from addiction and intend to show as many people as possible that addiction and alcoholism is not necessarily a death sentence. 

To do this, I would require all the equipment possible. This would include:
DSLR camera
Tascam or other sound recording device
Shotgun microphone
Tripod
Shoulder mount
Lighting equipment
Macbook Laptop
Editing software

I did take renting the equipment into account and learned it would be more expensive to rent than purchase, because of the length of time it will take to film. 

Ideally, we would like to start filming during the summer of 2016. It is worth noting that I am an aspiring filmmaker and currently attend Emerson College. Any equipment purchased through this campaign would be kept by me and used toward further filmmaking pursuits. Also, any residual money not spent on equipment would go directly to the scholarship fund for the Brook Retreat, which is a sober retreat founded by three friends of mine; all of whom will be featured in the documentary.

This is a topic that means a lot to me. I and so many people I know have recovered and it is our duty to show the world that recovery is possible. With your donation you can rest assured that you could help still other recover from a hopeless state of mind and body.
