Recovery Time for Dempsey

Donation protected
Although my dad and mom may disown me for doing this for them (without their knowledge or consent, because I KNOW they’d refuse if I asked them) I feel like they could use (and definitely deserve) some help during this time.

For those that don’t know, last Wednesday July 18th, my dad (Dempsey Strauss) was painting a 20 ft entryway from a ladder he’d placed on top of scaffolding (something he’s had to do many times before in his line of work), and he fell head first about 16 ft onto a concrete floor and some paint cans. He landed on the top of his head on an open gallon paint can after banging different parts of his body against the scaffolding next to him on the way down. While the ER doctor that took care of him claimed that my dad should have sustained critical injuries such as a broken neck, fractured skull, loss of consciousness, internal injuries, and other various broken bones from a fall of that height, and could’ve even been left a paraplegic, my dad was miraculously spared any fate like that! My dad is not a young man anymore, and you would expect bones of his age to break easily, but God said NOT TODAY! I believe his guardian angel must have been carrying him down, slowing his fall. There’s no other explanation! We give all glory and praise to God for protecting him.

Although Dempsey did not receive any fatal or paralyzing injuries, he did suffer a large gash (from the edge of the paint can) on the top of his head that required stitches. He also has seriously bruised ribs, various other enormous black and blue bruising covering a large portion of his legs, a sore neck, and an injury to his right knee that has caused tremendous swelling and required a knee brace and crutches.

Dempsey had an appointment with an orthopedic specialist on Monday to do a scan of his knee, and we are still awaiting his diagnosis. He was told it could be one of several things, such as a torn ligament or a fracture. Depending on the type of injury, he may or may not need surgery to his knee. As of now, he’s been instructed to keep it up, iced, and not walk on it until we know... But if you know my dad, you know this is not happening quite as it should. For instance, on Sunday he went to church, AND then to the prison ministry he volunteers to do. My dad is always volunteering his time, his help, and even his money to others, especially if it furthers the kingdom of God. He is a man that lives simply, within his means, taking care of his wife and then generously giving to others in every way he can. He sacrifices for others on a regular basis. That is why I feel, as I’m sure many of you that know and love him would agree, that he deserves some help from others at this time of need.
Dempsey is self-employed, running his own painting and remodeling business, and during this indefinite time of recovery he can not work. He was told he could possibly need 6-8 weeks to heal, but we will know more after the orthopedic specialist calls him back.

***I have set up this fund in hopes to help relieve my parents of unneeded stress during this time of recovery by helping them stay current on their bills and meet their immediate needs. My dad needs to rest and heal completely, and not have any excuse to go back to work too soon!!***

If you can help them with any amount, no matter how small you may feel it is, it will not seem small to them. Any donation, $50, $20, even $5, will be such a huge blessing!! If you can not donate, your prayers are a huge blessing all by themselves! Please pray specifically for good news on my dad’s knee, that his knee won’t require surgery, that he will not suffer any damage due to blood clots, for quick and full recovery to his entire body, for my mom’s health as she cares for my dad, and for provision for my parents as he takes the required time off.
Thank you all so much!!
