Jayce Persaud, a 3-year-old, who is suffering from a congenital disease called Hirschsprung's Disease. It is a birth defect which nerves are missing from parts of the intestine causing the child to not have regular or no bowel movements that mimics constipation. Treatment is generally done by surgery to remove the affected section of the bowel, but the consequences of surgery are sometimes life-long complications. There is no set "cure" for this but rather a hope that all the affected colon is indeed removed and life long management.
Because of the doctors negligence during the COVID pandemic, Jayce was detected late when he was just over 2 years old, though he was being treated for chronic constipation and suffering with extended tummy, fecal loading for 10-12 days and extremely painful bowel movements with the assistance of enemas, the diagnosis didn't come until really fighting and SickKids taking the case.
He was diagnosed in April 2025, had the colostomy to allow the colon to heal and come back to size in Sept 2025 and most recently has just had his Pull-through in March 2026 to remove the affected portion of his colon and drill out his rectal stump which were infected then pulling down the remaining colon and reconnecting it to his bum - which came with its own set of complications resulting in an extended hospital stay, infection, return to hospital, a longer road of recovery, pelvic floor rehab, and increased need for supplies we didn't expect. We previously had the help of Ontario home care and a home nurse that was able to get supplies for us while he had the colostomy, but now because the Pull-through has been completed the file is closed.
Unfortunately with this comes extra costs that we do not have. We are reaching out to ask for help during this time.
The funds raised would be going towards his supplies and equipment that are needed during this recovery process, as well as the ongoing pediatric pelvic floor therapy he requires to strengthen his muscles and better learn how to have proper bowel movements without pain/straining and discomfort.
Thank you all for your support.
