Hey everyone! Honestly, this is something I never thought I would do. My grandpa, Bob, needs help after a long year of health battles. 

My grandpa, 71 years old, has been working in the trades almost his entire life and has been the sole provider of his family for over 50 years. He’s always taken a lot of pride in being able to take care of his family. 

 

In October 2021, he was working and suffered a tragic fall from a ladder which resulted in him breaking his wrist, collarbone, and his ankle. From that point on, he was out of work until he was healed up but he wasn’t the same after that. He had to work though, it’s all he knows. 

Shortly afterwards, he developed what we thought was just a cold but it never went away. After months of trying to get him to see a doctor, he finally caved in June of 2022. He was diagnosed with throat cancer and had to undergo radiation treatment which was really hard on his body. Throughout this, he was still trying to work even though his body couldn’t take it and needed time to heal. Two weeks after finishing his treatment, he got Covid and was sick for weeks. 

We thought that it was the end of the battle, that after going through all of that, he’d be okay. He wasn’t getting any better and on the 29th of December, 2022, he was rushed to the hospital because he couldn’t breathe. He was coughing and had so much mucus build up, that he was choking every time he tried to breathe and turned blue from lack of air. The doctors at the hospital ended up giving him a tracheotomy so that he could breathe again. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks, and at the time we didn’t know what was in store for him. 

So that brings us to now. He’s home, and he is still trying to heal. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to work in months due to his condition. The hospital sent him home with some supplies to care for his trach tube but we’ve found out that they won’t be supplying any more for him. When you think about paying $6-7 for a catheter, you may think it’s not that bad but he needs a new one every day but it adds up quickly and he simply doesn’t have the supplies or money for it. He still has bills at home that need to be paid, and food to put on the table which he hardly has money for now. He’s having to sanitize and reuse medical supplies because he can’t afford to buy new supplies. This runs the risk of further infection with his new trach tube and honestly, I don’t want to see him go through that. 

He’s always been the one there for everyone and he’s got too much pride to ask for help, which is why I’m doing it. He’s a 71 year old man who has worked every single day of his life doing extremely hard labour and as much as he still wants to do it, he can’t.

I know that everyone is going through hardships these days, but if there’s anything you can do to help my family, we would be forever thankful. This GoFundMe is going to aid my grandfather in paying for his medical supplies, bills and life necessities for him and my grandmother.
