Recovery Fund for Matt Colburn
In late July my son Matthew and his family were enjoying a family day of swimming and riding his all terrain vehicle. Unfortunately, on his last ride of the day, his machine unexpectedly flipped over and when it did, his arm and hand came out of the cab, and were crushed between the machine and the ground as it was turning over. His family was able to get him out and get him to the hospital. Matt sustained a compound fracture, two broken bones in his hand, and his skin was literally torn off the top of his hand. The doctors took him into surgery to clean the injury and due to the extent of the damage to the skin, he had to wait to set the breaks. He is needing another surgery (possibly 2) to try to correct two of his fingers which will not straighten, and he’s unable to move them. Essentially, they are working to save his hand at this point. As time goes on he may be looking at skin grafts, and then physical therapy. Right now there is no way to know how this will turn out or when he will be able to return to work.
He has filed for disability through work, but hasn’t received any money yet. As a family, we are trying to support him, but the bills don’t stop coming just because you’ve been injured. Matt has a wife and 3 children and even things like food at home and gas for his appointments has become difficult. Money is running out. His doctor has made it clear he has a very serious injury and it’s going to take a long time to get through this.
I’ve set up this page to help my son and his family to try to lesson the burden for them. He is the sole supporter and is struggling emotionally, because he isn’t able to support his family. He is not the type of person that would ask for help, but I know it would be a huge relief to them and less worry will hopefully help the healing process as well.
Gift cards to grocery stores and for gas are also helpful. Even ordering a meal and having it delivered would lessen the burden. Please contact me privately for a list of stores/restaurants near Matt if this is something you'd like to do.
Anything is appreciated.
I will keep this page updated on his progress. Please keep my son and his family in your prayers.
