Chad Goss (now age 47) was born with a heart defect that required pace maker later at the age of 9 years old. Through out the years Chad has persevered through his tribulations and many surgeries. He worked regardless of his condition and refused charity of any kind. Over the years many employers would not hire him because of his condition, but Chad rose above those set backs and found a way to work and support his family.
In August of 2019, Chad was finally able to purchase the dream home for him and his family. A long term goal finally achieved. After buying this home, in the beginning of November 2019, Chad started to feel strange and had many symptoms (chills, fever, nausea, etc) that would come and go. He thought he had the flu. He continued to work at his job (landscaping company) that does offer medical insurance, but he could not afford to participate. In November doctors said he had pneumonia. At that time they gave him antibiotics and sent him home. In December the flu like symptoms began again. He tried to shake it off and continued to work.
In February, Chad visited an urgent care facility where he was transferred to Methodist of Willowbrook where they did many blood tests and cultures and found nothing at that time. A week later the hospital called and said the culture that had grown was positive for staph, a life threatening complication of an infection in his blood and could not find a point of origin.
During this time Chad missed a lot of work. He was then sent to Ben Taub Hospital and after numerous tests they found that the infection was on one of the heart pacemaker leads right at the entry of his heart (a life threatening infection in his blood). They also found a hole in his heart that would require emergency open heart surgery on Feburary 18, 2020.
Chad will be unable to work for 6 months or more and will have difficulty financially with hospital bills and living expenses. Chad is a contract worker, as most companies will not employ him with his heart condition.
This family will need our help. Donations will help this family keep their home and pay medical bills. Any help would be greatly appreciated asap.
Thank you - The family of Chad Goss
