Recovery from being hit by a car

Donation protected
Hi, my name is India Hicks. On March 4th, 2023 I traveled from my home in Las Vegas, NV to Los Angeles, CA for a Fashion Show Casting Call. I was only staying for the casting and to see the friends I could, and I had booked a ticket for myself to go home that night at 9:40pm. I attended my model call for Indie LAFW at 1:45pm, and by about 4:00pm I found out I made it! It was a great day. I left my friend to ride the same scooter I had been riding all day through downtown to get snacks from Little Tokyo. I told my old roommate I was on the way to her house after; around this time it was 6:20pm. I arrived at the corner near her apartment about 20 mins later, and I noticed the traffic lights were out and only blinking red. I was still on the scooter, so I waited at the corner for a bit before entering the crosswalk. I noticed the cars were going one by one from their respective sides of the intersection, and once the cars crossing me had gone I began making my way across the crosswalk. About 75% of the way across the street all I saw was headlights. The cars had already gone but he came through right behind another car and hit me. I had my purse on the handle bar with my work laptop, my jacket on, and my duffel bag around my shoulders. I felt the car hit me, and then I felt my head hit the ground. I didn’t lose consciousness, so I tried to get up. My legs couldn’t lift me up, and I felt blood coming from my head so I just started crawling until I got out of the street and grabbed a tree. A security guard was outside and she called 911 for me, and others helped grab my belongings from the street. My shoes were knocked off, my coat came off, so did my duffel bag. My purse was destroyed and my laptop broken both under the man’s car dragged down the street. My phone was hooked to the scooter, but it was knocked off and found later by the Paramedics before taking me to the hospital.

I’m so lucky to be alive. And although, I thought I’d be prepared for these moments I am not. My employer does not offer disability insurance, so I got my own. However, it is long term disability insurance and I can only make claims after having my policy for at least a few months. I work with kids, and in my condition I won’t be able to work for a few weeks. Everything seems to be going bad all at the same time. I have huge scarring on my face and swelling, and I know I won’t be modeling for a while now either. This was going to be my last show I did for the year, so I could focus on my professional work and build up my savings to start living like a real person and not a nomad. I don’t think I’ll be able to walk in the show at all now.

I need help from wherever I can get it. I’m praying I have a speedy recovery and I’m happy to be alive because I could’ve died right there but I just need help. This whole situation is so stressful. Never in my life did I imagine something like this happening to me. I Thank God for my friends that checked on me the night of the accident, thank you Shiva for picking me up from the hospital and bringing me back home to Vegas. They weren’t able to let me stay in the emergency room long and had to discharge me.

My diagnosis includes:
Blunt Force Trauma
Contusions and Swelling on my right and left leg
Facial Laceration that required stitches
Abrasions on my hands, feet, face and legs.

I’m currently on crutches, and many areas including my face are swollen.

If you can help in anyway, please do so! and if you know any injury lawyers please point them in my direction. I have filed a police report, but I don’t know much about what I should do next. Please help!
