Recovery from a serious dog attack

Donation protected
You may have seen in the news this week the savage dog attack on a man in Handsworth in Sheffield by a Bull Mastiff type dog. That man was our good friend Gary.

He was walking their little rescue dog Ozzy as he does every day after work when out of nowhere, the dangerous dog jumped over the wall and began its vicious and completely unprovoked attack. With a presence of mind many wouldn’t have had in that situation, Gary managed to get their little dog out of the way of danger by lifting him up by his body harness high above his own head, unfortunately leaving himself completely exposed. The Bull Mastiff then jumped up and sank its teeth into Gary’s chest and dragged him into the road into the path of the oncoming traffic. Managing to get back to his feet the dog the continued his attack biting into his arm. It’s only the quick thinking actions of a BMW driver who mounted the kerb to knock into the dog that gave Gary the chance to get up and capture Ozzy who had become free by this time.

This is the BBC News Report and Video of the attack. Please note this video contains distressing footage of the attack. And this is the Statement from South Yorkshire Police on the incident.

He is a self employed builder who needs to be physically fit and able to return to work. We’re not sure yet when that is going to be but with the severity of attack it could be a while. He will also need time off work for the court case as this has been a very serious incident. Friends and family have been asking if there’s anything they can do to help so I thought this would be the best possible way to help him to ease the financial burden this unexpected event has caused to give him one less thing to worry about. I completely appreciate that money is tight for everyone at the minute so if you’re not in a position to help, please help by sharing this page.

Gary is an incredibly private and proud man and so would never ask for help himself and doesn’t know about this yet! But I know how well thought of he is. A nicer man you couldn’t meet, someone who would do anything to help anyone else in need. So this time it’s his turn for us to return all of those favours. Hopefully by the time he see’s this he’ll be feeling much better and will give him something to smile about……although I have a feeling the biggest smile will be when he comes home from hospital and is reunited with little Ozzy.
