UPDATE: November 18, 2025
Trauma team visited this morning, started some meds for phlegm, had CT to evaluate if he needs another surgery to clean up inside. He has the start of pneumonia, an acute kidney injury, and was placed back on oxygen after a trial of being off of it, and he will be keeping his chest tube longer. He got to bathe and work with PT today to walk and get in the chair more. Praying for a restful night and more information tomorrow.
UPDATE: November 17, 2025
Dad has 7 broken ribs, and his chest tube is still in place to allow his lung to heal. He received a nerve block today to help relieve some pain and allow him to actually take a full breath. He was able to start eating meals again today but is dealing with some other complications related to diabetes and sleep apnea. He was downgraded to the trauma unit from ICU! Our biggest concern is infection and pain control.
On November 16th, 2025, our family’s world changed in an instant.
My stepdad, John Davis, of Nashville, IL, suffered a very traumatic accident while working outside near Coulterville. He fell from a ladder onto a pole, which impaled him from his right side under his shoulder and through to the left side of his neck. Emergency responders quickly responded to cut him from the pole to life-flight him to SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital for emergency trauma surgery.
A team of surgeons worked to remove the pole, repair internal damage, and place a chest tube related to the penetration of the pole through his lung. John is currently in the ICU, where he’s expected to have a long recovery ahead. We are unbelievably grateful he is still with us, but the road ahead is going to be tough — physically, emotionally, and financially.
My parents are extremely hardworking, humble people who would never ask for help on their own. They fall into that impossible gap of “making too much to qualify for financial assistance” but not nearly enough to handle something like this. With my dad unable to work for the foreseeable future, and with the cost of the life flight, ICU care, surgery, and ongoing follow-ups, the financial strain is already overwhelming.
We are asking for help to ease some of the burden so they can focus on the only thing that matters right now — healing and recovery.
Funds will go toward:
• Life-flight and hospital bills
• ICU stay and trauma surgery expenses
• Follow-up appointments, rehabilitation, and medications
• Gas, food, and travel for daily hospital visits
• Household bills while he and my mother are unable to work
Anyone who knows him would say he is one of the hardest-working, most loyal, and most selfless men you will ever meet. He is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and seeing him in this condition has been heartbreaking. Anything you can give — no matter how small — will make a meaningful difference for him and our family.
If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this page means more than you know.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, prayers, and kindness during the hardest moment of our lives.
I also plan to arrange some other local fundraisers in the future.
