There is a group of men and women here in Somerset, Kentucky who are facing homelessness by tomorrow. Not because they relapsed, not because they failed but because the sober living house they trusted has abandoned them.

This week, ten residents reached out to me, desperate and scared. They shared the conditions they’ve been living in, black mold, no heat, no food, broken promises, insurance fraud, money laundering and threats. I heard their voices shaking. I saw the messages. I posted their stories publicly on TikTok because the truth deserves light…

And because human beings in recovery deserve better.

They deserve dignity—not exploitation.

They deserve compassion—not profit-driven abuse.

They deserve a second chance—not punishment for seeking help.

These individuals are already fighting the hardest battle of their lives….. addiction recovery. They should not also have to fight for basic human rights: heat, food, safety, respect.

As of now, they have until tomorrow to leave.

No plan.

No housing.

Nowhere safe to go.

My goal is to open a sober living home here in Somerset that is:

✔️ affordable

✔️ safe and clean

✔️ staffed with compassion

✔️ truly recovery-focused

✔️ NOT run as a profit mill

A home where people are treated like humans not dollar signs.

I am an addiction counselor. I know the system. I know the need. And I know what good recovery looks like. I’m not asking for myself….. I’m asking for them.
