Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out during one of the most difficult times I’ve faced. Like many small business owners, I’ve been struggling in the aftermath of COVID. With fewer clients coming downtown and several staff members leaving—some for health reasons, others to pursue new paths—I found myself covering more and more of the rent on my own to keep things going.
Earlier this summer, I met with my landlord to discuss a repayment plan for the arrears that had built up. We agreed on a path forward, and I was doing everything I could to stick to it.
But on September 25, without warning, I was locked out of the space with a bailiff notice. I was given only a 4-hour window, within 5 days, to return and pack up everything—not just my belongings, but those of my subtenants as well. On top of that, I was hit with an unexpected $800 fee for the notice.
In a scramble, I had to come up with $900 for movers, and then tried to secure storage, only to find the cost—$700/month—completely out of reach for the space I needed. As a result, I’ve had to temporarily turn my bedroom into a storage locker just to keep my things safe.
Right now, I’m just trying to catch my breath, cover basic bills, and find a way to get back on my feet. I'm asking for help during this transitional period—any amount would truly make a difference and mean the world to me.
Thank you so much for reading, and for your support in any form—whether that’s donating, sharing this, or simply offering encouragement.
With gratitude,
Mikah Styles
