Hello everyone. I am a Army Veteran of the Iraq War and am currently working for the Phoenix VA. After all I have experienced in combat, had it not been for a passerby, my family and I would not be here today. On Memorial Day, 27 May 2019, we were woken by a neighbor who frantically informed us that our garage was on fire. I threw on clothes, yelled to my wife to get the kids and our dogs outside, then discovered we did not have a fire extinguisher. I ran into the garage and jumped into my wife's car to pull it away from the flames that were encroaching on the gas line to our hot water heater. As I pulled the car away, it drug melted plastic with it as the heat from the fire had started melting the front right quarter panel of the vehicle. I ensured everyone was out of the house, and began to run for the water hose on the side of the house to try and keep the gas line from being hit. Just as I un-coiled it from the house, Phoenix Fire Department came around the corner and I knew I needed to leave it in the hands of the professionals. We are still baffled at what caused the fire, as well as the fire fighters were not able to determine the cause. After all was said and done, the fire fighters did an amazing job, our home was saved and we are all alive. Thankfully, we have insurance to cover costs to repair our garage and vehicle, but the deductibles are fairly high. Where the fire itself did not destroy everything, there is smoke damage throughout the garage and outside. Please consider helping us reach our goal for the deductibles portion of rebuilding, the insurance company will do the rest. Thank you!
