Recovering expenses for Ken Spurbeck
Donation protected
This is being made by his daughters in hopes for some help.
You never think it is going to happen to you and then it does…….
Ken Spurbeck is a healthy, 67 year old husband, father of 4 children (which includes one autistic son), grandfather to 9 and great-grandfather to 2 which he all loves and adores. He has been teaching his grandsons car/truck repair and home maintenance which he enjoys to do. Sharing his knowledge and love of aerospace and all things automotive is a favorite past time.
On October 7, our wonderful father, Ken Spurbeck, had a tragic fall accident. This accident resulted in him being fully intubated in the field as he was unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing by EMT’s. Two of his grandsons and a neighbor saw the accident and immediately called 911. Stillman Valley Ambulance took immaculate care of him as he was transported to OSF Saint Anthony ER where two of his daughters and son-in-law met them at. The rest of the family was out of state and started rushing back to be with him.
Our family has had our lives turned upside down. We have been in and out of the ICU ever since with our mother as his injuries resulted in broken ribs, ruptured lungs, and a broken back. He did suffer a minor head injury as well. He has been left fully sedated and on a breathing tube as his lungs try to heal and to keep him still to not aggravate the back break. Currently he is undergoing back surgery which is resulting in 4 vertebrae being infused. We are praising God through this as the spinal column is intact. That is amazing despite the extent of injuries. God kept his hand on our dad to keep that spinal column not damaged.
Could there still be limitations? Yes.
Recovery afterwards is unknown at this time. We are praying and hoping for a full recovery and few to no limitations; however, we have been told to prepare.
He will be in ICU at least 3 weeks and the length of rehab is an unknown at this point.
Our father was the main income earner for him, our mother and he is the main caregiver for our autistic brother. So while he is undergoing this task of healing and recovery there is $0 of income coming in.
So that is why this GoFundMe is being created. My sisters and I are helping when and as we can financially, but we know it’s going to become more than what we can manage on our own. We are trying to make sure insurance premiums are paid, utilities paid, groceries and home repair/ maintenance is maintained to help reduce the stress of Ken’s recovery so when he awakes it is taken care of.
