On March 2nd, I was in a bad auto accident that had me transported by ambulance to the local hospital. The accident was caused by a 19-year-old who attempted an illegal left turn across the double yellow without looking. He pulled out in front of me with little to no time to stop. In short, I hit him at speed and it folded my bumper into the radiator and pushed the engine back. Airbags deployed.
The collision threw me into an atrial fib, and I had a concussion that caused me to lose vision in my right eye for a time. The compounded damage included bruised ribs, a herniated disc in my back, and my ankle was so torn up they put it into a “glass cast.” I have had headaches, vertigo, and tinnitus, and ongoing back pain that is only helped by strong muscle relaxers and pain medications. I am also taking anti-inflammatories. I will be seeing a neurologist next and will keep people informed. But I have a never-ending headache and back spasms that make it impossible to breathe at times.
I am healing—the crushing pain in my sternum has passed, but is replaced with stabbing pains in my shoulders. I now have a back brace that is helping when I stand. Everything is scrambled.
But here is where it really goes wrong: the insurance company for the other driver is delaying the claim. We are staring down significant medical co-pays at this time for CT/MRI along with future doctors visits. My car is gone, and I need another one to let my wife drive as hers is on its last legs (blown head gasket). I have had to shut down my businesses as I heal, but with co-pays, taxes, loans, and expenses, I am fading fast financially.
I want to say if you can help, thank you. But if you are yourself in a rough patch and cannot, please don't. Do not hurt yourself or put yourself in a bad way on my account. Only do so if you can truly afford to. I hate having to ask, but with the insurance company playing games to drag it out, I need help.
