Recover out of pocket expenses from assault

Donation protected
Hi my name is Larry and I live in Corinth. I was at Panera Bread on Brinker Rd 7/25/2021. I had just ordered and went outside to sit down. As I walked out, I noticed everything. I noticed the typical cars in the parking lot, the homeless standing on the corner with a sign and personal belongings, people coming out of the store across the street, how sunny and bright the day was and how nice to be able to enjoy a meal as I have done a hundred times there. But suddenly, things were not normal. I had just sat down putting my tea and phone down when I heard a screaming seemingly crazy man yelling and cussing at me just a few feet away and then as I stood up a metal chair hit me in the chest. I was in shock this was happening. I didn't know whether to run or protect myself because if I took my eyes off of him, I could be hit in the head with another chair as I ran. There was not a clear path to run, anyway. So, I backed up and blocked a chair with my right hand. A customer was in his truck and had pulled out facing the man. He pulled towards him and he ran off to get on his bike. EMT's came. People around me were horrified by what they saw. My left ribs were crushed in to the point I couldn't raise my arm above my shoulder. My hand was hit at the base of my thumb. I've been a massage therapist and can no longer rely on it for income. I moved my mom into my house 8 years ago. I was able to work from home and take care of her as she is on feeding tube, has COPD and on breathing treatments and oxygen. That is stressful enough but this assault has put an emotional scare as I am dealing with extreme anger. This man had two warrants out and now has 3. He was arrested a couple of hours later. Since this happened, I've run into the policeman that came out that day. Just before Christmas, I saw him again and I asked what he thought would happen to the man. He said they likely will release him since he has no way to pay any fines. He will be back on the street even if I press charges. I don't have time to do that and it won't make a difference. My mom is on hospice and I need to be here for her, not stressed out and spending time trying to get compensation for out of pocket expenses and going to court. Insurance nor will the Texas Crime Victims program cover the therapies I had to get some pain relief such as chiropratic and massage. The others like MRI, wrist brace, cryotherapy, toradol injection etc are not covered by either program. I was advised by an Atty to not drop the charges. Money raised will allow me to stop the application process with Crime Victim Program that has been incredibly frustrating. Likely it would drag out until middle of the year because they are having my providers who don't normally bill insurance do so so they have record of denial. I don't want to put them through that and some just won't do it, anyway. I showed the therapist at Soma Massage in Denton how to work on my shoulder so my arm would raise and we did it in one session. That is not reimbursable. Drugs, therapy, surgery are reimbursable. I hope you will help me have a better start to 2022 for my mom's sake. Thank you.

Update: the officer was correct.  He is now out on the street at the Brinker Rd and Loop 288 area in Denton, Tx most likely.  I'm closer to getting the financial part covered.  Going in the hole over this wasn't an option so thank you for your help.
