This August we were hit with endless extreme rains. The water eventually eclipsed its capacity and tried to absorb into the ground. Unfortunately we were then hit with the remnants of a tropical storm that led to more torrential rain. On Wednesday August 18th I awoke at 2am to over 3 inches of water in our finished basement. Sadly my whole life was down there. My furniture my clothing my memories appliances etc. This had become my living quarters as I had moved back with my parents years earlier to help care for my father as he was dying. After he passed I was now taking care of my mother who was unable to keep up the house. In the aftermath of this flooding I not only lost everything I owned my mother's home owners insurance covered nothing. I now have to find living space due to mold concerns replace everything I own and find a way to renovate the entire basement to prevent further damage. I've never asked anyone for a single thing my entire life but rather have spent my life helping others. This is the first time I've found myself having to reach out to others for any help we can get whether monetary or help with the work.
