Katie Keller and I have been besties for years now. Beyond besties, as she's been joining my family for every holiday for the last too many years to count. She has been by my side through career endeavors and life endeavors. Whether it was following me out to the high dez for an expansive life here in the Joshua Tree area; or building and growing my heart project and greatest pride Brewja Elixir along side me.
Katie has gone through a huge transformation since I have known her. Not only in her relationships and career but in taking this life and making it her own despite life's challenges and struggles with mental health.
In an effort to continue her life forward, she made arrangements to move into a new home today, December 31st. A chance to move out of an old home filled with bad memories and take a new space and make it her own. But when she was trying to connect to the landlord to exchange keys - he disappeared.
He listed the property online and had access to show her the house. He did a credit check and took her personal pay stubs for income verifcation. He then sent a formal offer letter and residential lease with an itemized receipt of all payments. He allowed her to turn on the electricity. Schedule internet installation. Even allowed her to forward her mail there. They had spoken about exchanging keys earlier yesterday morning, and as of the afternoon, his phone has been disconnected. The sheriff's department is trying to obtain a search warrant for his phone provider and email provider for IP information. But it is unlikely Katie will recoup any of the $2600 she had paid in rent and deposits.
Outside of the financial loss, she is left looking for a new place to live as she has given her notice and packed her old residence to be out by February. I know it's a new year, and money is tight for everyone. But if you have a few dollars to donate, I would love to help get my friend back on her feet as quickly as she can.
One love,
Sailene
