I'm Lali Maia, a singer and songwriter from Rio de Janeiro. Since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of the sea and have been involved in the stories and mysteries of Iemanjá.
I have a degree in Voice from Mc Nally and Smith College of Music and I was lucky to study with great teachers such as Casey Collins and Judi Donaghy. Today I am part of the Voice teaching team of the great reference, Mirna Rubim in Brazil.
As a child, I began to feel that songs wanted to be born through me. It was out of this urgency that I began to compose and sing. At the age of 14, I performed at Circo Voador (a concert venue in Rio de Janeiro) in a competition with one of my songs and won awards in two categories: talent revelation and best singer.
Over time, I dedicated myself to a fine study of listening to the sea, understanding its intrinsic way of permeating all things, after all, the origin of all life was born and came from the sea, we are all children and descendants of this immense blue.
On January 5th, 2020, I started to feel songs coming through me again, in the inspiration of Iemanjá, the Goddess of the Ocean, in the Afro-brazilian culture and religion. Songs that revealed enchantments and mysteries, that expressed my purest listening translated into poetry and teachings about the forces of nature in their essence.
This is how the songs of my first solo album, Mother of all Waters were born, with very special appearances by Oyá, Oxum, Ewá, Nanã and Ogum, we sail through these musical watercolors in the universe of the Orixás.
I’m fortunate to have a team of arrangers and inspiring direction of the highest quality to create this artwork with the talent and zeal required to deliver artwork of beauty worthy of the magnificence that is my relationship with the sea.
This Gofund me campaign is so that I can record and release the album. I'm counting on you to bring Mother of All Waters into the world!
