Recording my album— Jimi Darkness: A Rock Opera
Donation protected
In October of 2017 I walked into a support group for addicts and alcoholics and raised my hand. I thought my life was over, but I knew I was going to die if I kept on using and drinking the way that I did back then.
Now, on the eve of my 4th sober birthday, I’m trying to tell a powerful story about addiction with this rock opera I’ve written— Jimi Darkness: Alcoholic Superhero.
I started writing this piece while I was working as a Behavioral Health Technician at a drug and alcohol treatment facility in North Carolina. I would finish a song and show it to the clients in treatment and then write another song. They wanted to know what happens to Jimi. Like me, they could see the show in their mind’s eye. They could identify with Jimi’s struggle and we could laugh at the insanity of our common affliction.
My goal is to record this rock opera so I can show the record to would-be producers and make this into a Broadway show that helps people understand the psychology of addiction. I have the musicians, engineer, studio, and of course the material.
