Hello wonderful friends and fans of Our Atlantic Roots,
On August 3rd to 6th, we have the opportunity to record two songs that are very dear to our hearts (that you may well have heard us perform at a gig!) 'Take Time' and 'Hills of California'. The truth is, we've been sitting on these tracks for 5 years, waiting for the right opportunity to record them in the way we've always dreamed.
We're currently writing an album and we're excited about this fresh season approaching, but we really feel that these two songs should be recorded and released this year before the NEW :) We considered shelving them, but they're too special and we see how much our audiences connect with these two songs. This is why, we're planning to release them this autumn, but to do so, we have to record in this limited window, when amazingly the studio and producer are also free! We have so many gigs coming up - these are are only consecutive 4 days free until November! (the indie musician hustle is real!)
The thing is ... it's going to cost £4000 to record and release these two tracks. We have to raise this money before we can actually book the studio and team. This is why we're hoping to pull off a little spring time miracle with whoever feels willing and able to help. We know that many people won't be able to help us in this way, and please know that every stream, download, share on social media, ticket to a gig, it all helps to support us as indie musicians.
Every recording project is different ... some are lower budget due to being able to record parts of songs from home or in a home studio, but certain songs need more session musicians, a bigger space, particular gear and team members ... this is one of those projects that costs a little more, but we don't want to compromise on the quality. After all, songs exist forever and travel to all corners of the earth!!
A Quick Word on Sustainability ...
We're consistently faced with the challenge of making a music career financially viable as a married couple with no extra income. Only a couple of years ago, we quit our jobs to pursue this full time, and thanks to every booking, fan who has come to a gig or listened to our music, we've been able to continue to play live, make music and pay our bills.
One of our goals towards sustainability and longevity of our vocal health, is to build our library of songs so that we aren't gigging 160+ days a year on top of the day to day duties of what is essentially running our own record label. As well as gigging, we do things like: booking all of our own shows and tours (this is almost a full time job in itself!), song writing, planning and managing strategy and releases, running our website, building merch, designing things like business cards and leaflets, liaising with sync agents and music supervisors, writing and reviewing policies, reviewing contracts for the licensing of our music, liaising with press/radio, writing bios/designing posters for shows, creating ticket links, registering our songs with the appropriate collection agencies and so much more!
We love gigging, but it's not sustainable to perform live year on year as much as we do on top of all of the jobs above. This being said, the tough thing is that to build our song library, we have to lay out big chunks of money that we don't have. It then takes quite a long time to make that money back before making any profit.
We are planning to grow our team, little by little and expand our library of songs, in the hope that over time, as we position these songs in the right places, things can become more sustainable. This is a tough industry to be in. Especially at the moment. But we LOVE what we do and we know it's exactly what we should be doing.
The Amount We Need To Make This Happen ...
We need around £4000 to record and release these tracks. We are setting our fundraiser at £3000. If we raise this amount, we can go ahead. Mac and I will then commit to the final £1000. To make this happen.
Thank you for your support!! Let's do this.
Feel free to watch this very informal video where we talk a little about the song ... we also do a little performance of Take Time too :)
