From Quebec to Madagascar: Help Me Give My Daughters a Safe Home Again

On February 10, 2026, Cyclone Gezani hit the east coast of Madagascar with violent winds of more than 250 km/h.
In just a few terrifying hours, my family’s home in Toamasina was torn apart.

The roof was ripped away.
The ceiling collapsed.
Windows exploded under the pressure of the wind.

My husband held our two daughters as they watched their home break apart around them. There was nothing they could do but wait for the storm to pass.

*What We Lost*

Water poured into every room.

Furniture is destroyed.
Appliances no longer work.
Clothes, school supplies, important documents, and even our family photo albums were damaged.

But what hurts the most is not the loss of things.

We lost our refuge.
The house where my daughters learned to walk.
The place where they felt safe enough to dream.

Now, when they think of home, they remember fear.

*A Mother Far Away*

For the past two years, I have been working in Quebec to build a better future for my family. Every sacrifice, every long day away from them, was for that dream.

And today, while I am far from them, they do not even have a roof over their heads.

They are staying with relatives, and we are deeply grateful for this kindness. But it is temporary. It is not their home.

My daughters wake up at night when they hear the wind.
They relive the sound of the roof being torn away.
They ask me, “Mom, when can we go back home?”

As a mother, it breaks my heart not to have an answer.

*Why We Need Help Now*

Rebuilding is not just about bricks and wood.

It is about helping my daughters feel safe again.
It is about giving them a bed where they can sleep without fear.
It is about restoring dignity, stability, and hope.

We must act quickly. The longer the house remains open and damaged, the worse the structure becomes because of humidity and exposure.

I am doing everything I can from a distance. But I cannot do this alone.

*How Your Donation Will Make a Real Difference*

Your support will go directly toward:

- Rebuilding the roof and securing the structure
- Repairing walls, floors, and moisture damage
- Replacing essential items so the house can be livable again

Every dollar matters.

$10 helps buy essential building materials.
$50 helps secure a safe window.
$100 helps bring back a solid roof over my daughters’ heads.

No contribution is too small. Each act of generosity brings us closer to safety.

If you are not able to give financially, sharing this campaign with others can mean more than you imagine.

*Help Me Turn Fear Into Hope*

I am asking for your help with humility and with a mother’s love.

Help me give my daughters back their home.
Help me replace fear with security.
Help me rebuild not only walls — but their sense of safety and peace.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, your compassion, and your solidarity.

With gratitude,

Sylvie
