Many of us know Alyce as being a firecracker, with pocket rocket can-do attitude and confidence for days. But many of you many also not know, that she is having a personal battle at the moment as well.
Aly was born with Poland Syndrome - a condition in which a person is born with underdeveloped chest muscles on one side. While growing up, she has had implants to change her appearance to be "symmetrical", try to feel confident in her own looks and fit into society's "image" of a woman. But in the last year, her implant has led to great chronic pain daily. The increased pain has begun compromising her ability to work, affecting her home life with family and spending fun times with her daughter.
Recently after seeing new doctors, she has been put on pain medication to cope while on the waiting list for surgery. Though the pain has subsided, a side affect of the drugs is depression. Therefore, she has been prescribed antidepressants as well to cope with this - but it still has not been easy for her, as this is a chemical induced depression where the antidepressants aren't really helping. In particular, there has been dark suicidal thoughts and near attempts.
The best option for Aly would be surgery, which would be a transfer of muscle and skin from one part of the body to her chest, creating a new and improved breast for her. Unfortunately, the cost of this is looking at about $10,000 (not including anaesthetic), and currently a 18-24 month wait on the public system.
If Aly had this money, she could get off the meds that play with her mind and book in for the surgery within a month or two.
Please help me get our beautiful Alyce back to her self mentally, physically and emotionally, and give her the boob she deserves!
