Reconstruct Remi

Donation protected
Hey everyone! On Saturday March 9th, 2019 my wife, 2 year old son, our 5 month old Sheltie puppy named  Remi, and I were playing at the park around the corner from our house.

While playing at the park our puppy took a fall and snapped his hind leg, breaking it clear through both of the bones in the lower area of his leg.

It was absolutely horrible hearing and seeing Remi in that condition. We secured his leg, rushed to our house,  googled the nearest Emergency Vet, and jumped in the car. Because it happened on a weekend and it was an emergency we took our pup to Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center in the North Hills area outside of Pittsburgh.

After hours at PVSEC and $500 later, Remi was evaluated,  X-rayed, and administered pain medication because of the severity of the fracture.

After the evaluation we were informed of our options. The Doctor explained to us that the fracture requires surgery and that they would need to support his bones internally with a metal plate for optimal recovery and rehabilitation.  This need for surgery was determined by the Doctors to cost approximately $4000.

We were devastated after hearing the cost. My wife and I weren’t aware of the potential cost for an injury like this. We explained to the Doctor that we wouldn’t be able to come up with the money and we were given alternative options.

Alternatively the Doctors could attempt to set the bone in its proper place and place a cast on Remi but this option would not be recommended. Per the Doctors there would be potential for future trouble as the dog’s leg would not heal properly and could result in further injury or inevitably surgery in the future and ultimately would end up more expensive in the long run.

The other options provided were seemingly unbearable to hear and options we were not willing to consider. We were informed that we could amputate Remi’s leg, put Remi down or relinquish custody of the dog and give Remi over to the Hospital to be treated and placed somewhere to be adopted.

Unfortunately we  cannot afford the surgery which, to us, after much thought and prayer is the only option, to get the dog’s leg fixed properly and for it to heal healthily and for Remi to stay apart of our family. But to do that we need funding and resources.

We are currently searching and researching all of our options for aid and for alternative Veternary paractices, clinics or Hospitals that could perform a similar or sufficient surgery for less money. But the majority of our alternative options are directing us back to PVSEC because their facility would be best suited to treat Remi with the care that he needs.

Because of our financial situation and the amount of debt we currently have we are unable to take on additional debt in the form of thousands of dollars so Care Credit and similar options are not things we’re able to consider.

This is is one of our last hopes! Please help us to Reconstruct Remi and keep him a part of our family.  For the few months we’ve owned Remi we could not express the amount of love and joy he has brought to our home, especially to our  2 year old son Leo. Please consider donating and if you can’t donate please pray for us and share this post so that more people would have the opportunity to give.

Thank you all, We hope to have Remi back in action soon!
