Reclaiming Black Joy

Cultivating a private practice that merges psychotherapy, creative arts, and nature-connection is a vision that I’ve been working towards. I want to create a space (covered by insurance) that invites individuals and communities to engage in similar experiential healing practices that helped me reclaim my voice, freedom, and resilience throughout my life. With graduate school coming to an end, I have been in search for a leadership development program aligned with my dream. I’m grateful to discover and be accepted into the Weaving Earth program. As an immigrant who is a first-generation academic, mentorship has been an important tool for my professional development. It’s been a challenge to find guidance that is specific to my journey due to stigmas around black bodies, mental health, and nature connection that are perpetuated by violence at the hands of white supremacy. Weaving Earth permits me access to receiving mentorship by a black woman and be in an interracial outdoor education space without the fear of being tokenized or demonized by others, which is unfortunately an experience I’ve had that has depleted me of my joy. To be in a non-academic environment where my existence and passions are honored enables my personal and professional growth.

 

Weaving Earth has already displayed their investment in my joy and growth with their generous financial support offered as economic reparations. As the immersion experience starts next week, I will be traveling between California and Massachusetts until the end of July to honor my academic and work obligations. I am trusting in the power of community and connection for financial support my plane tickets since I currently don’t have ability to do so. Each ticket is between $500-$600, which in total is $2,600.
