Reciting the Tibetan Corpus (Kangyur)

It’s come to my attention that many of us are experiencing obstacles, difficulties, loss of stability, loss of good health and so forth in the new year. For some of us, this is obstructing our Dharma practice.

I have spoken with Sed Gyued Monastery to arrange a very powerful prayer: a recitation of the Buddha’s entire corpus of Sutra, Tantra, and Prajñaparamita teachings (Kangyur). They will also recite the Indian commentaries on Tantra, Prajñaparamita, and Madhyamika from the Tengyur. I see this as a very rare and precious opportunity: to sponsor the voicing of the entire primary Buddhist canon in Tibetan and support an entire monastery via a large donation. The merits are unbelievable.

I will request dedications to clear away obstacles to our realizations — including instability in our lives, bad health, loss of wealth, and so forth — and aim the merit toward making a connection with the Sed Gyued lineage (Gelug tradition, Tibetan Buddhism), towards us having all needed circumstances for gaining every realization without misunderstanding, obstacles, or backsliding (including Lamrim and all Tantric instructions all the way up to enlightenment), and towards anything else you may want or need. I will also request a dedication towards the swift return of Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

The prayer will cost an estimated £615. This includes feeding the reciters at the monastery for ~20 days and serving them tea. It also covers a grand lunch after the recitation is complete.

All additional money will be given as a general donation to the monastery. Everyone who contributes any amount will be considered a sponsor for both the prayer and the general donation. For reference, the total operating cost for the monastery, not including food, is about £4,155 per year.

This includes the cost of their entire Buddhist Sutra and Tantra curriculum, language classes, the monks’ annual medical expenses, the monastery’s ritual expenses, and many merit making activities.
