Hi, my name is Monica.
On February 5th 2025, my life changed drastically in what seemed to be overnight. In January of 2025 and went to the hospital with a couple of toes on my left foot that were blue turning black. They treated me as they saw fit then released me into Home Health Care. My infection was still active when I was discharged and it took over a week for the hospital to get home health care orders for over a week to continue with my care. By then, it was too late and the infection had spread and I had to readmit to the hospital and eventually due to the spread of gangrene infection I had to have my left leg amputated below the knee and all of the toes on my right foot. At 63 years old, after always taking care of myself and others throughout my life, I found my independence in living alone extremely compromised. For months I have been healing. But due to previous lumbar stenosis and now this, truth is I'll never get out of this wheelchair. Everybody is telling me to seek legal recourse which I am trying, but these kind of cases are very difficult to win and I cannot find good representation. In the meantime the home I've been in for 10 years is not wheelchair accessible in any way shape or form, in fact I cannot even get into my bathroom due to the width of the doorway. That has taken a toll on my dignity because I find myself having to use a commode in my living room and paying someone to discard of my human waste twice a week. I also have had my wings clipped as far as transportation and socialization. I desperately need a vehicle that is accessible for me with a ramp and a way to use it myself. Meaning I need a ramp to get into the vehicle and then a way to get into the driver's seat and drive it. So my immediate need is a vehicle like that and the ability to move to an ADA type residence or with my landlord's permission, do some remodeling work if that is even possible because of the size of my space.
I am not used to asking for help. But it has come to the point where I'm desperate for it. I want to thank all of you for reading this and contributing if you can. I know things are rough these days for everyone. I just wish everybody would keep in mind to be very grateful for what you have because life can turn on a dime. Please help if you can but definitely share this fundraiser. I am eternally grateful.
Monica
