During the 19-degree night, my friends Tom and Stephanie's home caught fire and burned to the ground. Complete loss. So, so fortunate King, their dog, whined enough to pull Stephanie from bed. They got out safely. The volunteer fire department came quickly and put the fire out before it could spread much, but very little is left—some metal, glass, and a big ole mess.

As you could imagine, they are in shock as they try and figure out next steps. They have a temporary place to stay, and with the help of Red Cross (and friends), have met their most basic needs. But! So much to replace, not only stuff, but the feeling of security and a place in this world.

$3000 is a modest amount for what they are facing, but I know times are tough for everyone, and there are so many in need. Just hoping we can take the edge off.
