Thrive Farms is a family-owned small farm on the North Shore of Oahu. We teach kids from the Hawaii Technology Academy and serve as an incubator for two up-and-coming farmers. Prior to the Kona Lows, we harvested thousands of pounds of vegetables per month, serving popular eateries like Monkeypod in Waikiki and Ko'Olina, Roy's in Waikiki, Farm to Barn in Haleiwa, and Kalihi Kokua Valley. Our vegetables touch the plates of thousands of people in Hawaii per month.
The storms caused $75,000 in damage to crops and equipment. Crop loss and soil remediation, along with clean-up and lost production, will likely push that number into the six-figure range. The road to recovery is unclear. We are looking for any help to cover living costs, equipment purchases, and soil remediation and clean-up. Like most farmers, we don't like asking for help, so any help you can provide us with will be greatly appreciated, as the scale of destruction and the impact it is having on our business and our lives is unprecedented in our 10 years of farming.
