Rebuilding the Rock Garden

The Rock Garden campground in Manjou, Southern Taiwan is the kind of place we all love. Laid back, welcoming and always filled with laughter and great music, The Rock Garden was lovingly put together for everyone to enjoy all that Southern Taiwan has to offer. Lots of sunshine, mountain air, refreshing river swims, close to the beach, great pizza and a wonderful crew of folks from all over the island who were attracted to its relaxed and hospitable vibes.


On September 20th 2019 a long time American expat in Taiwan who struggled with mental health made a terrible and devastating decision. In a moment of madness, he soaked the bar and kitchen with gasoline, cut the lines and turned on the gas and set fire to the Rock Garden, completely gutting the bar and kitchen area. It is only through some absurd luck that the full tank of gas didn’t blow and that no one was hurt or killed. As you can imagine, this is shocking news not only for those involved in the Rock Garden but also for the expats’ friends and family who are still struggling to come to terms with what has happened.


This GoFundMe page is setup to help the crew at The Rock Garden rebuild, restock, re-purchase valuable equipment, redo the electrics and generally pick up the pieces. We’re asking for donations of all sizes to contribute towards putting the Rock Garden back together again so it can once again be that wonderful welcoming place Southern Taiwan needs and deserves.
