THE JIB ROOM PHOENIX PROJECT
Everyone has heard about the incredible destruction inflicted by Hurricane Dorian on The Bahamas, particularly Marsh Harbour. The Jib Room and The Marsh Harbour Marina (the "Jib Room"), located on Pelican Shores in Marsh Harbour, have been a very popular gathering place for friends and families alike for over 30 years. Steak and rib nights were the place to be for great food and great times. The Jib Room as we knew it is no more. It has been destroyed. It was destroyed in a manner that no one contemplated for insurance purposes.
The Jib Room was acquired by the Appleby Family in late 2017. It is operated by Chris Appleby, its General Manager/Owner and a staff of friendly and dedicated employees. It was their only source of income. Many businesses also operated out of the Jib Room.
Chris was in Marsh Harbour during the hurricane and helped many people who otherwise would likely not have made it. He made sure those were all evacuated before he allowed himself to be evacuated. Once safely evacuated, Chris returned the next day with a group of volunteers (including his father and brother) on a donated yacht bringing much needed relief supplies to the Abacos. Like most in Marsh Harbour, Chris lost his house in its entirety and all of his possessions except those he had on his back.
We are facing a very daunting task - rebuilding the Jib Room and The Marsh Harbour Marina back to a bigger and better place for all of the visitors and residents of Marsh Harbour to enjoy. And most importantly be able to re-employ its staff and for the other Bahamian businesses to return for them to able to live and prosper in Marsh Harbour with their families.
Several Go Fund Me Accounts have been set up to assist not only Jib Room Employees with short term living expenses but also others who have lost everything in the storm.
What is needed immediately are funds to clean up the incredible amount of debris that has smothered the Jib Room and surrounding properties. This fund is for that purpose. To set the stage for the ultimate rebuilding of the Jib Room. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
Like the legendary Phoenix Bird, these funds are being raised by the Appleby Family, the owners of the Jib Room, to resurrect The Jib Room from its ashes as described above. The funds will be used solely for that purpose. For Marsh Harbour to ultimately recover and prosper, the many small businesses that make up the business community must be able to return to
