Over the past 50+ years the Gale Family created Paradise on Earth... and Hurricane Dorian took all of it.
Some of you know The Gales best as Island Marine, the marina a 5-minute boat ride across the bay from Hope Town on Elbow Cay in Abaco, Bahamas. Island Marine rented boats and gear to Hope Town visitors, friends of Hope Town Hideaways and other vacation rentals, or anyone wanting a boat to visit the nearby islands of Man-O-War, Scotland Cay, Guana, Lubbers Quarters, Tilloo, Sandy Cay, Little Harbor...
The Gales have lost Island Marine (their livelihood) and Jeff, Jenny and Joey's home to Hurricane Dorian. Dave & Phoebe's home suffered considerable damage. And completely destroyed are the two cottages that Dave & Phoebe originally built for themselves as newlyweds and later for their growing family; cottages that The Gales have graciously rented over the years to a lucky few, who love Parrot Cay for the treasure it is.
My husband Angelo and I have stayed in South Cottage for 9 years; we consider The Gales and all who they rent to as Friends. This summer our daughter, who is the same age as Jeff & Jenny's son Joey, had the opportunity to stay at Perch on a last minute chance invitation from her "grandparents" (another long story) - now Perch and South Cottage are no more… When Joey left for his freshman year of college, who could have imagined the only home he has ever known would be gone only one week later, and he will not have a home to go back to for his breaks from school...
So we have started this GoFundMe page to reach those who know and love The Gales, Parrot Cay and Island Marine. Due to the prohibitively steep cost of insurance in "paradise," they had none.
All funds raised by this page will go directly to The Gales for their reconstruction efforts on Parrot Cay, and for the restoration of Island Marine, a critical business in this island nation. It is our greatest hope that Dave & Phoebe can return to live out their remaining golden years in the paradise they created and shared with so many.
