My name is Tyson May - I’m a Canadian entrepreneur from Waterloo, Ontario and have been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years throughout a blend of restaurants, bars and lounges.

I relocated from Canada to Jamaica to try to take a risk and jump start opening a new business in the Montego Bay - Trelawny area of Jamaica in the Caribbean.

I’ve been building a restaurant and lounge that I really hope(d) to impact the industry at a high level in Jamaica. I have a beautiful location on the seaside, on the main road - which consists of a lot more work than I can handle myself. I spent countless dollars and endless days working in and on this business whenever I could make it possible. Last week, Hurricane Melissa showed up and completely took away most of that.

My community and home was destroyed by the hurricane - massive trees uprooted, entire roofs ripped off, hydro poles dropped on businesses and homes and electric wires littering the streets, people had their pets and animals killed, entire houses and business places blown over and crushed to the ground, floods and windows blown out, vehicles turned over and crushed - an absolute Hollywood-style nightmare-fuel movie-like scene of chaos.

Now we’ve been facing the aftermath - no electricity, no internet, no phone connection, no running water, very scarce, limited and expensive drinking water and food supply, over-priced public transportation, very limited gas supply and closed businesses. We are paying to get our phones charged by the few people with working generators.

I haven’t seen as much as a police officers’ handshake nor a water bottle be given to the people in my community since the Hurricane destruction and everything has been left entirely to us on the ground.

Right now I’m looking for help covering the fees associated with the losses I ask for a little help getting my business, my community, my friends and family, my home and my supporters back onto the right track after this devastation.

Any help is more than greatly appreciated. I created this GoFundMe solely so that it’s easier for me to get any money sent directly into the hands of the people on the ground.
