Hi, my name is Niki. On April 29th, our lives were changed when a huge 80-year-old tree fell on our little ranch house. We were so blessed that none of us were hurt when the tree fell. Three of us were home, along with our cat and dogs. As we grabbed whatever we could to take with us as we left our house that night, we had no idea that nine months later we still wouldn't be back in our home.

I thought it was time for a little update about the house. Well, the tree fell on our sweet little house on April 29th (almost 9 months ago). We were in a hotel for the first three months. Then we were able to move into a two-bedroom apartment. It is a bit of a tight fit with 4 people full-time, and Tate is here about half of the time. We also have our 2 dogs and 2 cats.

It has been such a long, hard process to get the house repaired. There was so much damage from the tree, but even more damage from the water that got in. We lost so many of our belongings, including our refrigerator and stove. Money has been so tight with having to buy so much, including clothes, furniture, etc.

It started off with us being taken advantage of by the original tree guy that we hired. We ended up firing him and had to hire someone else. This made it cost more and take longer to have the tree removed so that it could get a tarp on it.

There hasn't been a lot done to the house because of the insurance company dragging their feet. We had gotten the roof replaced. Then this week, it had to be removed so they could replace 11 of the trusses. The new roof was put on, and the new gutters were put back on. This was all because of mistakes made by the roofing company.

We are finally taking steps forward. But there is so much damage that we are quickly reaching the limits of our insurance policy. It is a super tight budget that will not cover everything.
