Hi everyone, my name is Kaylar Howard.
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart. My family’s hometown, Black River in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, was destroyed by Hurricane Melissa. Our neighborhood, Newton, was hit especially hard almost every home was damaged or lost. People are displaced, hearts are broken, and so much of what we’ve built over generations is gone.
My mother’s home was severely damaged the roof ripped off, and the windows and doors shattered. My childhood home, where I grew up and where my family shared years of memories, was also severely damaged with the roof completely gone. What once was a warm and welcoming place is now exposed to the sky.
It’s painful to even put into words. The streets where I played as a child are now unrecognizable. Neighbors who once shared food and laughter now have nowhere to sleep. These weren’t just houses they were pieces of our history, our comfort, our sense of belonging.
St. Elizabeth suffered some of the worst damage in Jamaica. There’s still no electricity, no clean water, and food is running out. Schools, roads, and small businesses have all been destroyed. My family, friends, and neighbors are doing their best to stay strong, but it’s hard to rebuild when everything feels lost.
We’re raising funds to help repair roofs, rebuild homes, and provide food, water, and essentials for families who have nothing left.
If you’re reading this please know that any kind of support means the world to us. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or a simple message of encouragement it all helps more than you know.
We’re holding onto hope that with love and community, we can rebuild what was lost and bring life back to our little town.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for caring, for sharing, and for standing with us during this impossible time. ❤️
Thank you again for your support!
