Our Story
My name is O’Shane Black, and I am a proud Jamaican. In 1997, my brother Russhane and I came to the United States together, leaving behind our hometown of Lottery, Jamaica. Even though we built our lives here, our hearts and our roots have always remained with our family back home. We are the only two living in America; everyone else we love is still in Jamaica.
Hurricane Melissa has shattered their world.
Hurricane Melissa ripped through Lottery with a force that no one could have imagined. Our families' homes were torn apart and washed away in hours. What was once their homes now damaged, flooded, and in pieces. Getting the calls and seeing the photos were heart breaking, and being so far away made it even harder. The places that we remember my families' homes, are only a shell of what they once were.
My brother and I are doing everything we can from here, but we can’t rebuild our families lives on our own. That’s why we created this GoFundMe. We’re hoping to raise enough to help our family rebuild their homes, replace essentials, and regain a sense of safety, dignity, and stability.
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a real difference. Your kindness brings hope to our family at a time when so much has been taken from them. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us support the people who mean everything to us.
With love and gratitude,
